Japan pulls you in from the first moment. Bright lights, quiet shrines, forest paths, coastlines and cities that never sit still. This 12 day vegan Japan tour gives you a front row seat to it all with a pace that lets every place sink in.
You travel with a group that shares your values. Your leader keeps the days flowing and arranges places to eat when you want company. You still choose where and how you dine. This keeps the trip flexible and fair for plant based travellers.
We begin in Tokyo. Asakusa’s shrines set a calm tone before the rush of Shinjuku and the sweep of Shibuya Crossing. The mix of old and new gives the city its grip. You feel it within hours.
From here we move to Kanazawa. The samurai and geisha districts feel untouched. Wooden houses, narrow lanes and soft light make the city easy to wander. It offers a slower rhythm before the next step in your Tokyo to Hiroshima itinerary.
Kyoto brings three days of temples, gardens and quiet corners. Arashiyama’s bamboo grove, Nonomiya Shrine and Tenryu ji offer space to slow down. Nijo Castle and Gion add evening charm with streets that glow after sunset.
We stop in Nara before reaching Osaka. Nara’s eighth century temples and stray deer feel timeless. Osaka sits at the other end of the scale. It is bold and full of food. Your leader knows the vegan friendly spots that work well for shared meals and the ones you may want for a quieter evening.
The final stretch takes us to Hiroshima and Miyajima. The floating Torii gate rises from the water with a calm strength. Hiroshima gives context to the journey and leaves a mark that stays long after you return home.
This trip combines culture, scenery and choice. You get the support of a group, steady guidance from your leader and the freedom to enjoy Japan in your own way.
Spring in Japan is the busiest time of year. Tours fill fast and dates can close without warning. If this trip matches what you want from a vegan journey through Japan, it is worth saving your place early to avoid missing out.
from 2,900 GBP / 3,800 USD
At each location we also offer a variety of activities which we have left as optional to suit each individuals tastes and budget. These include:
and more…
* Group meals when you want them
Breakfast is included each day.
We have specifically chosen not to include meals – tastes and appetites differ and this keeps the trip better value for everyone.
However, at every lunch and dinner, your tour leader will set up an organised meal. You can join the group and pay only for what you have, or wander off and try places on your own.
This approach gives freedom and keeps costs fair, while still giving you the chance to eat with the group whenever you prefer.
Welcome to Japan!
Your adventure begins in Tokyo, a vibrant city where neon streets, serene temples, and local vegan eats await. After checking in, take time to settle into your hotel before joining your Tour Leader for a relaxed local walk to get your bearings and feel the city’s pulse.
In the evening, you can join the group for your first vegan-friendly meal at a nearby restaurant, a gentle introduction to Tokyo life.
During the tour, all meals marked as optional are pre-arranged and optional so that you can join in with everything arranged for you or you can choose to take some time-out to explore at your own pace to discover some hidden gems. The GoVegan Travel map and your tour leader can help you find some amazing vegan options.

This afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its striking architecture and historical significance. In the afternoon, after settling into our Osaka hotel, enjoy a welcoming introduction tour around the local area, getting a taste of the city's vibrant streets, neon lights, and bustling food markets. The evening concludes with an optional group dinner.

Today we dive into the heart of Osaka, exploring the city’s most iconic sights. Start with Umeda and Grand Front, then visit Osaka Castle Park before wandering the lively Kuromon Ichiba Market. Continue through Dotonbori, Hozenji Temple alley, and Shinsaibashi-suji, discovering streets filled with shops, street food, and local culture. Evening is free for an optional group dinner.

After breakfast, we board our final Shinkansen Bullet Train from Osaka to Hiroshima, enjoying the scenic high-speed journey through Japan’s countryside. After arriving and exploring the local area, we'll take one of Hiroshima's many trams to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, including the A-Bomb Dome, Children’s Peace Monument, and a gentle stroll along the Motoyasu River, reflecting on the city’s history and resilience.

Today we'll spend the day discovering the spiritual and scenic highlights of Miyajima Island. We ride local trams and take a ferry to reach this iconic island, to be met by its famous "floating" Torii gate.
Stroll along Omotesando Street, the main shopping avenue, full of charming shops, street snacks, and perfect photo stops. We visit the historic Itsukushima Shrine and admire its vermillion gates rising from the water. Next, we wander to Daisho-in Temple at the base of Mount Misen, a peaceful spot filled with history and ornate statues, before taking the Mount Misen Ropeway to the summit for panoramic views. Finally, we'll enjoy a short scenic walk through Momijidani Park with its forested paths and seasonal colours.

Your journey through Japan comes to an end today, but we hope you're leaving with unforgettable memories and new friendships. Enjoy a final breakfast at your leisure before checking out.
Your Tour Leader will be on hand to assist with any last-minute questions or transportation needs. Should you wish to return to Tokyo, Kansai, or continue your travels elsewhere in Japan, we can help arrange Shinkansen tickets, flights, and accommodation either at booking or during your tour.
If you'd like to extend your stay in Hiroshima or nearby cities, we're happy to arrange this or offer guidance to find the perfect accommodation. Your journey may be ending, but the memories will stay with you. Until next time!

Most international guests fly into either Tokyo Narita (NRT) or Tokyo Haneda (HND).
Haneda is closer to the city center and usually cheaper to get from, but Narita has way more international flights. Both work perfectly fine!
Private transfers aren’t included as standard because Japan’s trains and buses are so good (and a lot cheaper!) and we prefer to give our guests the option to choose what works best for their style and budget.
That said, we’re happy to arrange private cars for you if you prefer – just let us know.
Most people take the train – it’s fast, reliable, and super straightforward.
Haneda is so close that the train or monorail is usually the winner!
Super easy!
During the your Tour Leader can arrange the limousine bus from central Hiroshima straight to the airport (¥1,500, ~45–60 min). Or if you prefer a private transfer we can book that too – just say the word.
Of course! This is a great option if booking a simple two-way flight is cheaper or more convenient.
You can take the Shinkansen bullet train (~5 hours, ~¥20,000 / $130) or a quick domestic flight (similar price if booked early). We’ll help you sort the best option.
Yes! Breakfast is included daily, either at the hotel or close-by if a better vegan option is available, so you only need to budget for lunch and dinner (plus snacks and coffee, of course).
Of course this will vary from person to person depending on the style of restaurant and number of course ordered, but as a general guide:
A relaxed daily total for lunch + dinner is usually ¥3,000–6,000 (~$20–40).
Japan has a good choice of delicious vegan and vegetarian options these days!
Absolutely – every meal-time your Tour Leader organises an optional group lunch and dinner.
It’s a great way to try new places without the stress of always needing finding somewhere yourself, but you’re always free to explore on your own too.
Not if you're joining one of the twice daily group meals. Your Tour Leader takes care of reservations for anyone who wants to join the group meals, and there are always plenty of walk-in vegan-friendly spots if you feel like going solo.
Absolutely. Every restaurant, market, and experience we include has been chosen with vegan travellers in mind. You won’t need to compromise on your diet, and you’ll get to enjoy the rich variety of vegan options Japan has to offer.
Yes. While we have included guided activities and group experiences more or less every day, the tours are designed to allow some free time for you to explore independently, shop, choose and optional activity or simply relax.
The tour involves moderate walking each day, including exploring cities, visiting temples, wandering markets, and discovering local sites. Therefore at least a moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy this tour to the full. Comfortable shoes and a sense of adventure will also help.
Your tour price includes all accommodation, daily breakfast, guided activities, twice-daily optional group meals and all transport within the tour and its included activities.
You’ll also have the support of your Tour Leader throughout the trip to make sure everything runs smoothly.
You can find more details in the 'Inclusions' and Itinerary' sections above
Most hotels, cafés and even some trains have free Wi-Fi, but as ever, speed and quality can't be guaranteed
The best and easiest option is to either arrange an eSim before you travel, or grab a pocket Wi-Fi at the airport (unlimited data, ~$30–50 for the whole trip). These can easily be booked online as well to save time and are returned using a pre-paid envelope at the end of your stay. The benefit of portable Wi-Fis, which are pretty unique to Japan, is the simple ease with which you can share the signal with your other devices or travelling partners
Your Tour Leader can help you pick one up on Day 1 if you miss out at the airport.
All transport during the tour (trains, buses, ferries, trams and taxis) is included. The only journeys not covered are your arrival transfer and your departure from Hiroshima (or back to Tokyo if you choose that) and any optional activiites that you choose.
Whenever luggage is involved we include private taxis or vans to/from stations so you don’t have to drag bags on public transport. On lighter days we usually walk or take the subway – it’s quick and fun!
Tipping isn’t part of Japanese culture – no need at restaurants, taxis, or hotels. The only exception people sometimes make is a small thank-you gift or envelope for the Tour Leader at the end of the trip if you feel they went above and beyond (entirely optional and always appreciated).
